This June, the Sacatepéquez and surrounding regions of Guatemala suffered the worst eruption of the nearby Volcán de Fuego in a century, resulting in the deaths of over 100 people and the destruction of entire communities.

In response to this tragedy, our plan is to work with Julio García, director of the school and NGO Asociación Bendición de Dios in Alotenango, with whom we have partnered many times in the past. Bendición de Dios serves many of the families that were directly affected by the volcano. Julio also lives in Alotenango, which has been the staging ground for relief and rescue efforts. For the reasons above we have full confidence that these gifts will be directed to those most in need. NHI/ACE has determined with Julio that it will be best to wait for a couple of weeks to distribute the funds to the Asociación, when first responders are no longer in the picture. Once the funds have been shared with Bendición de Dios, we will continue to monitor the situation. Muchas gracias.
